Orchard School Welcomes Future Families for an Inspiring Open Evening

Orchard School was delighted to welcome prospective Year 5 and Year 6 students and their families to a highly successful Open Evening as they began exploring their secondary school options for September 2027 and beyond.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for visitors to experience the vibrant learning environment, inclusive culture and wide range of opportunities that make Orchard such a special place to learn, grow and thrive. From inspiring classroom activities to student-led presentations and interactive demonstrations, there was a real sense of excitement, curiosity and community throughout the school.

In Science, visitors were captivated by hands-on demonstrations featuring robotics, engineering challenges and rockets, showcasing the creativity, innovation and curiosity that sit at the heart of learning at Orchard. Families were able to see first-hand how our curriculum encourages students to question, investigate and discover, preparing them for an ever-changing world.

Our Sports and Health team also played a central role in the evening, introducing visitors to the increasingly popular sport of pickleball while highlighting the extensive opportunities available through our PE curriculum and enrichment programme. Alongside promoting physical activity, staff spoke passionately about mental health, wellbeing and the importance of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. Families learned how these essential aspects of personal development are woven throughout school life, reflecting one of Orchard's greatest strengths: our commitment to developing the whole child, not just academic success.

A particular highlight of the evening was the opportunity to experience our exciting new catering provision, delivered in partnership with Innovate. Visitors were treated to an impressive display of freshly prepared food, showcasing the quality, creativity and variety available to students each day. From beautifully presented savoury dishes and fresh fruit to tempting sweet treats and refreshing drinks, the response from families was overwhelmingly positive. Many commented on the outstanding presentation, delicious flavours and modern approach to healthy, nutritious school meals. The new provision reflects our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing and ensuring every aspect of the Orchard experience is exceptional.

Our Food Technology department was equally busy, providing prospective students and their families with opportunities to see practical learning in action. Students proudly demonstrated their culinary skills, showcasing the creativity, confidence and independence developed through the curriculum. Visitors enjoyed seeing how students develop valuable life skills while exploring their passion for food, nutrition and hospitality. Even the staff were involved making some of our delicious treats including Ms Burke who is our Behaviour and Belonging Manager icing some cakes.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening came during a powerful and moving address from our Headteacher. Speaking passionately about inclusion, belonging and opportunity, the speech perfectly captured the values that underpin everything we do at Orchard. Families heard how every student is welcomed, supported and encouraged to flourish, regardless of their background, interests or starting point, creating a community where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to achieve their full potential.
Visitors were equally inspired by our exceptional Head Prefects, who spoke with confidence, eloquence and authenticity about their experiences at Orchard. Sharing stories of personal growth, achievement and opportunity, they painted a compelling picture of school life and demonstrated the character, ambition and leadership qualities we seek to nurture in every student. We are immensely proud of the way they represented the school and the lasting impression they left on prospective families.

Another hugely popular attraction during the evening was the House Champion Showcase, which highlighted the fun, friendly competition and strong sense of community that are such important parts of life at Orchard. Families enjoyed exploring the activities organised by our Houses and meeting the staff who help drive participation across the school. Our House Champions play a vital role in fostering belonging, encouraging teamwork and celebrating success. Through competitions, charity events, enrichment activities and opportunities to earn house points, the house system helps every student feel connected, recognised and proud to be part of the Orchard community. They perfectly demonstrated how Orchard combines aspiration and achievement with enjoyment, teamwork and school spirit.
The success of the evening was made possible by the dedication, enthusiasm and professionalism of our staff and students, whose warmth and commitment ensured every visitor received a genuine Orchard welcome. The overwhelmingly positive feedback received throughout the evening was a testament to the strength of our community and the exciting opportunities available to young people here.

From academic excellence and personal development to student leadership, house competitions and enrichment opportunities, the evening showcased the many ways Orchard helps young people discover their strengths, build lasting friendships and develop a true sense of belonging.

We would like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the event such a tremendous success. We look forward to welcoming many of our future students and their families back to Orchard in the coming months as they take the next exciting step towards joining our community in September 2027.

At Orchard School, every student is encouraged to belong, achieve and flourish. Our Open Evening was a wonderful celebration of exactly that, and we look forward to welcoming the next generation of Orchard students through our doors.
